WhatsApp Business API in Ghana: how to get a verified number
Most Ghanaian businesses already sell over WhatsApp on a personal handset. Moving onto the official WhatsApp Business Platform is what lets a team share that number, automate the repetitive parts, and take payment in the thread. Here is what the move actually involves.
What you need before you start
A registered business. Meta verifies that the company behind the number is a real legal entity, so you will need your registration documents and a way to prove the business address and website belong to you.
A phone number that is not currently active on WhatsApp. The Platform takes over the number entirely. If the number you want is already running the WhatsApp Business app, you either migrate it or start with a new line.
A Meta Business Manager account. This is where the business lives, where verification happens, and where the number is eventually attached.
Business verification is the slow part
Business verification is Meta confirming your company exists and that you are authorised to act for it. It is a document review, and it is the step most likely to send you round again: the commonest reason for rejection is a mismatch between the name on your registration documents and the name on the Business Manager profile.
Make those match exactly before you submit, including punctuation and any suffix like Ltd. Have a document that shows the business name alongside either the address or the phone number you are registering.
Your display name is what customers see
The display name attached to the number is what appears at the top of every conversation. It must reflect the business, and Meta reviews it.
This matters more than it sounds. If you use a vendor to run your WhatsApp automation, customers should still see your business name, not the vendor's. Anything else trains your customers to trust a brand that is not yours.
Then the number goes live
Once verification clears and the display name is approved, the number is connected and messages start flowing through the Platform rather than a handset. Anyone you authorise can work the same number, and automation can handle the questions that repeat.
At Kairos we do this part with you: the number stays yours, registered to your business, and we connect it to the assistant and load your documents so it can answer from them.
This guide describes Meta's own rules, which change and differ by country. Check Meta's current documentation before relying on any specific figure or timeline.
